What to expect at your newborn photoshoot...

Some of the many reasons I go to my customers homes is because I find families to be at their most relaxed. A new baby will not have been to many new places. So to have familiar surroundings is comforting to them. New parents may find it difficult to remember every tiny item that may be needed if they leave the house. Being at home allows them to grab that 7th clean nappy or just the comfort of feeding in a warm comfortable place. Or when mum decides she doesn't like dad's choice of Hawaiian shirt for family photos, he can quickly change!

A new baby who has recently been fed so that they are as comfortable and happy as possible tend to be more cooperative and willing to let me pose them within their photoshoot. I ask to try and feed little one before or just as I arrive at your home for the photoshoot. I suggest to try and get baby down to their nappy and wrapped in a blanket, ready for when we start the shoot, and begin with the sleepy curled up photos to show how tiny they are still.
If baby is unsettled, most of the time I have my secret ways to settle and calm them down. The most important thing to remember is all babies are different. Some (not very often ) will sleep most of the shoot. Some will cry lots at the beginning and it may even take 45 minutes to get them settled for photos but after that they will fly through it.  And some may cry on and off throughout the whole photoshoot.

So when baby needs feeding for the 5th time in a shoot, don't worry! I'm used to it. I have lots of patience and I am more than happy to wait to ensure perfect photos are captured. It doesn't matter what your baby is doing on the day, I will always manage to capture great photos for you to cherish forever.

So I normally start with photos of baby on the beanbag. These are when I will get the proper newborn photos where little one is curled up on their tummy etc. These are the shots that take the longest as baby will be the most settled/asleep and to put them into different positions I have to move slowly to not disturb baby.
I then move onto family photos (if desired) on a bigger backdrop that covers the floor.
Then onto photos with baby in different props such as a basket, a wooden crate and a vintage suitcase. All props are padded out with blankets so baby is always safe and comfortable. In these photos. I incorporate personal touches such as babies first teddy or a special blanket nanny made etc. There are lots of items you can include within your photoshoot, I will always try to accommodate all of them for you.
All these phtoos are taken on a range of different colour backgrounds throughout the shoot.

Photoshoots can take around 2 hours to complete. This takes into account baby needing a feed or a break, me setting up the studio and just general chit chat!
